Daniel's travel blog. San Francisco and surroundings from July till November. |
Hello dear followers,
This might just be the last message Im posting to this travel blog. I finished my research last week and had a very good final chat with my professor. I got a really good evaluation. I went to San Francisco for the last time yesterday, ofcourse I had a great party. And today Emile and me had our goodbye dinner and invited all our Berkeley friends. We had 40 people in a Thai restaurant and I enjoyed it a lot even though it was pretty hard saying goodbye over and over again and talking with everyone about the great experiences we had and the unknown future. I really hope I see these people again someday.
Last weekend I went to Las Vegas, which was just crazy. Really just crazy. I also went to the Grand Canyon from there, which was amazing to see. The plans for my remaining time in the US look like this:
Tomorrow Emile and me start our road trip which I probably mentioned earlier. We drive south with a rental car, to Los Angeles and San Diego. After, we drive east to Phoenix Arizona, where the environment will change completely once again. Im really looking forward to this actually. We’ll spend 2 nights in each city. On November 17th , I will fly from Phoenix to New York, like I planned from the beginning. And Emile will actually join me so Im not gonna walk alone through NY :D Im also going to meet Boris, my friend from the TUeindhoven who is doing his research close to NYC.
Then, on the 22nd I will land in Amsterdam. See you all soon!
Daniel
PS: Im uploading tons of pictures to my facebook.
I know it has been a while since my last message. For me time flies though. The other day someone counted my remaining number of weeks for me and I really didn’t like it. So Im not going to tell you right now :)
My research is doing better than ever, because the mechanical system I am working on actually works completely lately. It’s always nice to see things moving. In my spare time I am actually partying less since a while, Im doing little trips instead. Like visiting San Francisco, Treasure Island, Santa Cruz and like last Sunday when I arranged a whale watching boat trip for 40 people in Monterey Bay. It was a really great day that everyone enjoyed (depends a little bit on how seasick they got) and we got to see some Killer Whales and Dolphins. The whales weren’t very close, the boat followed them on a distance but we could see them coming up to breath, showing their head, fins and flanks. So all our pictures are kind of blurry or ‘to late’. It was quite amazing anyway, if you ever get the chance: go on a whale watching trip! But be aware of motion sickness :)
Furthermore, California is treating me just fine, it is around 30 degrees C around this time. I haven’t seen rain yet in America, although a week ago there was a day when the weather really tried..
More stories next time, I will write before Halloween which I will spend in Santa Barbara close to Los Angeles. It is supposed to be the best place to celebrate and Halloween is HUGE here in Amerika (I think maybe comparable to Carneval in the South of Holland).
Regards, - Daniel

Game Day! (GO BEARS!)
Hi everyone, Im still doing fine.
I haven’t had much time because since the new semester started there are so many people and there is so much to do.
I went to several fraternity parties (studentenverenigingen / disputen) last week. They are all trying to get new members right now. Basicly this week was like the Intro Week of the TU Eindhoven.. one big party. Sorry, but I don’t got many photos of that and most aren’t appropriate for the internet anyway :P
During the weekend I went on a retreat (it’s like a camp) with I-House, into the nature, making new friends. Research is good, for the first time I am getting some measurement results. Im going to the SF Airport now to get my new roommate Emile. Don’t really got more news right now, but I will attach some photos of a bike ride through SF and The Golden Gate.
